Hello! I wanted to have an incentive to explore more music rather than listen to the same-old every day on my daily commute. As such, this will become a weekly segment as a part of my blog every Wednesday, where I try to introduce everyone to something new every week.
As a reference: I don't really like hip-hop, so you'll rarely see anything from the genre here. I do appreciate the genre, but I don't have a taste for it personally.
This week, we're starting it off with one of my favourite J-Rock albums: ANTITHESE by MY FIRST STORY.

I've been a fan of J-Rock for a while now. I feel it takes a new perspective to the rock genre. ANTITHESE caught my attention when I was listening to Spotify Radio, and Fukagyaku Replace played. It gripped me with its English opening lines, and then the main riff starts playing. The leads then burst in, taking you on a ride down the fretboard. You can feel the notes being played, and you can't resist bobbing your head to how good that lead piece was written.
I don't actually natively speak Japanese, so I often read the Romanji and English lyrics while listening to the song. I love how a lot of Japanese songs can fit so much meaning in very few lines due to how the language is structured. For example:
Nannen tatte mo matte mo Nakusanu you ni dakikakaeta Zutto kanashikute munashikute Mou saki nante nai kara!
Translates to:
However many years went by, however many years I waited, I kept holding you so tightly, as if to not let you slip away. I've always been so sad; an empty shell, There's nothing waiting ahead!
Everything is so poetic. I love it!
The mucisianship is some of the best I've heard. Everyone in the band comes together and provides such a simple and technical sound while remaining catchy.
Aside from Fukagyaku Replace, some highlight tracks for me are ALONE, Smash out!!, "Boom" and Last Call. You'll understand when you give it a listen. All of their albums can be seen on Spotify, along with their newest track "King and Ashley". Give them a listen if you want a new take into the rock/metalcore genre.
